Bought to Be a Blessing

Clint Ware reminds us this week that God has redeemed us by purchasing us with his death, to get us out of the pit that we all fall into. His text is taken from Matthew 13:45-46, which reads:
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”

On Committment Sunday, Pastor Hedgepeth brings a message about giving.

Kingdom Living and Kingdom Giving

The parable of the talents, found in the Gospel of Matthew, illustrates for us the way we should give. In Clint’s sermon, we are reminded that we have three commodities in our lives: time, money, and affection. How we spend them in this life reflects how much we trust our Master, and whether or not we really know him.

The Kingdom - Part 6 - Treasuring the Treasure

The Kingdom - Part 6 - Treasuring the Treasure

The parable of the Treasure in the Field, found in Matthew 13:44, is one that has several applications for our lives.  This week, Clint Ware interprets the treasure as the greatest gift that our heavenly Father gives us, our personal salvation. He encourages the listener to receive this priceless gift, which only requires that we trust in him alone.  This is a treasure that we sometimes try to earn by our own actions, something we need to guard against.

Jesus was in trouble with the Jewish authorities after they observed the things that he did. In the gospel Jesus is in trouble for doing “these things,” which are not detailed or explained. We can presume that it is the lifechanging, life-affirming things that got him in trouble. The sermon suggests that every church should be marked by the presence of the “Same things!”
