There is Still Power in the Name

Clint’s message this week helps us remember that we have an access to power through the name of Jesus.  An excerpt from his sermon’s summary is below:
My fear is that we as Christians forget that the name of JESUS HAS POWER
- I fear that we are influenced by the surrounding culture
- and by Satan
to a point that we feel uncomfortable about speaking that name in public
- it is easy at Church
- it is easy around other Christians
How can we break out of this mold that our culture has forced us into?

FUMC Clinton 8:45 service, November 16, 2008 - A Thief in the Night

I Thessalonians 5:1-11

The return of Jesus is illustrated vividly by Paul when he shares the image of the thief in the night.  We are reminded to remain alert and open, open to God in the silence and prepared for the transformative invasion of God's grace.  The final judgment for the glory of Christ's return is ever present.

FUMC Clinton 8:45 Service, Grace as Images of Comfort

I Thessalonians 4:13-18
From earliest times Christians have asked for assurance that those who have died are not lost and forgotten forever, but repose in God's loving care. The images by which we hold fast in faith to the confidence that our loved ones remain in God's loving care change over generations, but the comfort they bring gives us peace

When Rumors Raise Doubts

I Thessalonians 2:9-13 “It has been rumored…” a phrase we have often heard. As we remember the “saints” of our church, we may actually hear rumors about our family or friends we love and trust that are not true. In Paul’s letter to his friends we discover that people were sharing rumors about him. Paul longed to be with the faithful people of Thessalonica and share the correct information with those he had come to love and trust
